Hey Navy... I was working in the Camp Pendleton area today at Oceanside Harbor Dr. If you saw an orange CalTrans truck and some person hoeing the heck outta the weeds, that would've been me.  :)

2.0 head rebuild or can I just swap it?
« on: July 09, 2012, 03:49:48 PM »
Hello, I have a '74 pinto 2.0 L engine, the overhead cam has froze up, does not crank. I don't know much about engines, so I have a question, instead of a rebuilt head can I just swap another working head in it's place, is that possible? Any help would be great. Thanks

Sure, you could just swap it as long as the replacement head is in really good shape, otherwise you would just end up doing it again. If the replacement head has been rebuilt or at least well inspected then your good.

I had my 72 head rebuilt with new exhaust seats, all 8 valves and valve guides, new cam shaft bearings. Inspect
the cam journals to be sure they are still within spec too. It was well worth the $400 or so duckets for the machine
work and parts because the engine runs great now and only have to be concerned about adjusting the valves
every 20 to 30 thousand miles or so. Also don't forget to check the head for warping and look real close at the freeze plugs too.
