« on: October 18, 2012, 07:18:05 AM »
I look in on the site twice daily. When I see a new add in the cars for sale, have a peak.......and already 30 - 60 views ! I'll never find a deal ! LOL !

Not to mention other cost preventing me from buying Pinto stuff.
Like the diff in my 07 F-350 piling up. Took the magnetic fill plug out & it was a huge ball of ground up metal (only 163k on my truck).
Found a used one with 139k on it for $900.00. Changing it out this week end.
Just last week, new tires.....over $1500.00
New shocks & steering dampner. Needs a new windsheild as well.
Good thing I get paid to use my truck ! (last job was on the low side @ $100.00/day + fuel)

Car is ready for the header build. But the guy is busy for at least another month.

Also, this fall I had new tin installed on my shop roof. Had the ceiling done as well. Gas line has been run. Ready for the new hanging heater.
No more working in the shop at -40c (or colder) !  ;D

So how goes it with my fellow Pinto folks ?

I know the feeling. 10 weeks ago I covered up Callisto to do some much needed R&R on my '95 Neon work car that only has 48K original miles on it. It had a leaky power steering hose & a rotted exhaust.

24 hours after I popped the hood the engine/trans, K member & front suspension was on the ground.

I went through 20+ wire wheels cleaning rust, 2 dozen cans of VHT chassis epoxy, 4 new Sensa-trac struts, new Matrix springs, new ball joints, tie rod ends, rotors, calipers, pads, Prothane suspension bushing kit, power steering hoses, radiator, A/C condenser, coolant hoses, timing belt, water pump, lower pulley(cracked the stocker removing it), oil pan(pinholes rusted through), all gaskets, Nology wires, stainless header & 3" stainless exhaust, new gas tank & straps, fuel filler neck(pinholes),rear strut cushions, wheel cylinders, brake shoes, all brake lines(pinholes), fuel & vent line(pinholes), new Scat Pro Car front seats, crystal head lights, clear marker & tail lights, 16" wheels, new lug nuts & Riken Raptor tires plus god knows what I forgot.

I finally drove it around the block monday & need to button up a few things before a 4 wheel alignment & $2500 bucks later I have my daily driver back LOL.  It's amazing how it snowballs on you. I still have to paint it & install the Xenon body kit next year along with some audio additions & when I'm done I should have about 5K wrapped up in a car worth about 3 grand. Never said I was smart  ???

Add to that my '07 Stangs new 5.4L is in the machine shop getting prepped to handle 4-digit HP numbers & they want more money plus 3K for a bigger Whipple blower & I'm scraping pennies together for Pinto parts :'(

'73 Sedan(Pro Street 2.3Turbo eventually)

I have too many projects at the same time is my problem.
2 Pintos, a Granada wagon,a 10.5 Outlaw car,a Spec Miata,
a 306T Zephyr and a stick Fox street/strip car.All on them
run but there is still lots to do.
The tow vehicle needs tires(sound familiar ?),just built a
16x20 pavilion for entertaining people at the house(11K).

Just the tip of the iceberg for me,work has gone to 58-62
hours a week and no time for car stuff on weekends until after Christmas.

In this economy, with our Socialist state of affairs, My new , (and Redundant) state of Pinto is to continue the coma. We won't be stepping out on any expenditure limbs for non essential Fun , until the job market improves. (Over 10% UE rate here) We got weather for drivin, but a stalled economy.  The Car state? HA! we are just a election away from mantatory Plug in cars.  The research has been done , the costs are in the books. Pending the collapse of  the Californicatio n , we might be on the road..  Your mileage may vary :o

California is one of those places that you have a hard time believing it's part of the USA. It really is the closest thing to living under communist rule without going to China. How the dummies in that state keep voting for more liberal idiots like Governor Moonbeam to tax & spend them into oblivion amazes me. I don't know how you can live there & not want out....

One of our cc members has a LS/6 speed/8.8 IRS street/track days Miata.
Lots of one off home built pieces.

It gets sideways at 75 mph easily.

Oh yeah, its 515 hp at the wheels.

Well I finally got heat in the shop. Been thinking about getting this done for about 8-9 years now !
Biggest reason I got to it, is the Pinto sitting in the shop. Wanted to keep it warm, ya know ?  ;D

So, do I add this to the car costs, like the wife thinks ?  :o

I told her it didn't add a nickle to the price of the car, so cannot be added to it.

She seems happier knowing the price of the property goes up with a finished shop.
When I kick over she will do well !  ::)

Lots more started going wrong with the 07 F-350. Trans going now. Other things as well. Traded it off on a new 2012 F-350 crew long box. Should pick it up on Monday ?

Not a whole lot of choice. Working the patch, many oil/gas companies will not hire on a service truck older than 5 years old.

As per the norm....been seeing a number of items on line I want & have to pass on !  >:(

"Charlie Reese has been a journalist for 49 years.

545 PEOPLE--By Charlie Reese

Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them.

Have you ever wondered, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, WHY do we have deficits?

Have you ever wondered, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, WHY do we have inflation and high taxes?

You and I don't propose a federal budget. The president does.

You and I don't have the Constitutional authority to vote on appropriations . The House of Representative s does.

You and I don't write the tax code, Congress does.

You and I don't set fiscal policy, Congress does.

You and I don't control monetary policy, the Federal Reserve Bank does.

One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one president, and nine Supreme Court justices equates to 545 human beings out of the 300 million are directly, legally, morally, and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country.

I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because that problem was created by the Congress. In 1913, Congress delegated its Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally chartered, but private, central bank.

I excluded all the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason. They have no legal authority. They have no ability to coerce a senator, a congressman, or a president to do one cotton-picking thing. I don't care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in cash. The politician has the power to accept or reject it. No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislator's responsibility to determine how he votes.

Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con regardless of party.

What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall. No normal human being would have the gall of a Speaker, who stood up and criticized the President for creating deficits... The president can only propose a budget. He cannot force the Congress to accept it.

The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole responsibility to the House of Representative s for originating and approving appropriations and taxes. Who is the speaker of the House? Nancy Pelosi. She is the leader of the majority party. She and fellow House members, not the president, can approve any budget they want. If the president vetoes it, they can pass it over his veto if they agree to.

It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 300 million can not replace 545 people who stand convicted -- by present facts -- of incompetence and irresponsibili ty. I can't think of a single domestic
problem that is not traceable directly to those 545 people. When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise the power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist.

If the tax code is unfair, it's because they want it unfair.

If the budget is in the red, it's because they want it in the red.

If the Army & Marines are in IRAQ, it's because they want them in IRAQ.

If they do not receive social security but are on an elite retirement plan not available to the people, it's because they want it that way.

There are no insoluble government problems.

Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take this power. Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exists disembodied mystical forces like "the economy," "inflation," or "politics" that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do.

Those 545 people, and they alone, are responsible.

They, and they alone, have the power.

They, and they alone, should be held accountable by the people who are their bosses.

Provided the voters have the gumption to manage their own employees...

We should vote all of them out of office and clean up their mess!

Charlie Reese is a former columnist of the Orlando Sentinel Newspaper.

What you do with this article now that you have read it......... is up to you.

This might be funny if it weren't so darned true. Be sure to read all the way to the end:

Tax his land, Tax his bed, Tax the table at which he's fed.
Tax his tractor, Tax his mule, Teach him taxes are the rule.
Tax his work, Tax his pay, He works for peanuts anyway!
Tax his cow, Tax his goat, Tax his pants, Tax his coat.
Tax his ties, Tax his shirt, Tax his work, Tax his dirt.
Tax his tobacco, Tax his drink, Tax him if he tries to think.
Tax his cigars, Tax his beers, If he cries Tax his tears.
Tax his car, Tax his gas, Find other ways to Tax his ***.
Tax all he has then let him know that you won't be done 'til he has no dough.
When he screams and hollers; Then tax him some more, Tax him 'til he's good and sore.
Then tax his coffin, Tax his grave, Tax the sod in which he's laid...
Put these words upon his tomb, Taxes drove me to my doom...'
When he's gone, do not relax, it's time to apply the inheritance Tax..

STILL THINK THIS IS FUNNY?

Not one of these Taxes existed 100 years ago, & our nation was the most prosperous in the world. We had absolutely no national debt, had the largest middle class in the world, and Mom stayed home to raise the kids.

What in the [beeep] happened? Can you spell 'Politicians?'

Wow!!! Reeves1 is all I can say about that posting.

So true that it hurts. I think I'm just going to stay international until things change back home. If they ever do? Out of 52 weeks I get 12 at home. So maybe I can handle it?

Also (tell) nah don't do that!!! Offer her a corner in the new heated shop for her stuff, and maybe she will agree to the upgrades.
