hello again, hello
« on: May 15, 2012, 05:47:26 PM »
So recently I got two e-mails, seemingly out of the blue, one from cookieboystoys and one from 75bobcatv6. I had almost put Pintos out of my mind but appreciate the blast from the past and the sentiment of some of the long time club members.
Here's a quick update of how things are and have been. On the health front, after a long time of treatment, things are doing alright. I was able to put down the cane (yay!), am still on meds and getting b-12 injections monthy. I'm working part-time, and am getting better organized. The disability thing came thru in November last year, and there was a settlement of back benefits, so I got to take care of a lot of things that got put off.
Unfortunately, I didn't get the money in time to save my beloved Pinto. I made the painful decision to sell it in January of 2011. It started burning oil and smoking blue from the tailpipe. After a go-round with the DMV and the Environment department it was decided that I had 60 days to fix the car and re-present it or lose my registration. I was flat broke-what to do? Decide to let it sit or sell it and use the money for another car?  The replacement came in the form of a 1971 VW Super Beetle--classy, faded orange paint, hammered back fenders, tattered interior, no bumpers, but it ran. It's that funky "AutoStick" transmission-no clutch, but you shift. It's got a sunroof, and it's been reliabe (mostly) for the last year-and-a-half.
I do have some of my settlement left and am casually hunting for another Pinto, but there are still some loose ends to tie up before I get on with that.
I hope you all are doing well and that you still get to drive your ponies once in a while.
Chuck

A virtual version of my last Pinto. Was Registered Ride #111. Missed every day.

Chuck! Glad to hear back from you! Good to hear things are pretty much falling into place for you, and finding another Pinto someday should be pretty easy. Heck, maybe Fred could help throw something together for ya!

Here's to hoping you stick around awhile!

Glad to hear you are doing good!! Thanks for the update.

As far as the bug, you can go to The Samba for any questions you may have. I do suggest doing a search first though! LOL They are a pretty tough group and don't like it when the same question has been asked several times. Not as nice as this group, but it is a good resource for anything VW. Here's the link!  http://www.thesamba.com/vw/   I'm "justcruzin" over there. I hang mainly in the Bay window forum but also go too the 58-67 Beetle forum and Split window forum. If you join I will check out the Late model forum too! LOL

Glad all is well!! :D

Hey Chuck!
Glad you're doing okay and that you popped in for a visit.  Sounds like things have been looking up!  Good luck with your search for another Pinto, but please stop in and say "hi" every once in a while, Pinto or no Pinto!  You're always welcome!
Dwayne :)
