I have been working on a 66 Mustang for the last year. i need some help deciding what engine to put in it.The car came with a 6cly,but I have a 289 and a 2.3 turbo that can go in.I am leaning towards the 2.3.What do you all think,thanks for the help.

289/302 or the value of the car goes WAY down.

One thing comes to mind for me GT140T its one sweet car so I say 2.3T and well as for Value who cares not like your gunna chop it up to fit a 2.3t Under the hood so it could always be converted back if decided later on and the 2.3T will more then likely make just as much power if not more.
Its also a 66.

Thanks guys.I am not to worried about the value.This Mustang will not be a garage queen,It will be a daily driver no matter what engine I put in it.

I say be different....g o with the 2.3 Fred Morgan has a Ranchero with one in it and he pulls the boat to the river with it!!

I've had my '65 289 Mustang GT for 40 years but can't afford to drive it anymore because of the price of gas!

I'vve done many 289s in 65-67s, they are a lot of fun but everyone builds them that way. The 2.3 would be different for sure but I think I would go with a 200 with parts from Racer Walsh or Clifford research. A lot of power can be made from them now and I think someone makes a bellhousing for a T-5.

I love amustang with a 289,BUT!!!! I love a mustang witha stright 6,BUT!!!!!!! ( I Know I'm one)But, A 66 Mustang with a 2.3 turbo would not only get better gas milage, BUT!!!!! Would be a great conversation piece. NO ONE WOULD HAVE ONE LIKE IT! BUT!!!! that's just my opion. I,Myself, the but,Wouldgo 2.3 Turbo just to be a BUTT!

turbo would be cool, everyone has a v8, plus gas is going to be around 5.00 a gallon soon!!!! so the 2.3 will make it a cheap car to cruise!!!

Hey pinturbo75,I like.I HAVE A 2.3 TURBO IN MY 80 Rallye. It has been in there for the last 10 years,and it is still a blast.

The SVO with that set up was actualy slighly faster that the GT of that day. I had that set up in my Pinto in high shool, stock and GTs could not touch me. I think it would be a very interesting 66
