1979 Ford Pinto restored to near cherry condition, runs great with 90K original miles. EVERYTHING works in this car! I do mean EVERYTHING! It’s a trunk model, 4 speed manual, 2300cc motor,  original AM/FM radio, doesn’t burn any oil, no AC. It has dual side door mirrors with internal controls. This car is virtually rust free. I purchased the car in Tampa, Florida and it’s never been exposed to road salt. The car was rust proofed when it was new.

I have done a great deal of preventative mechanical work to this little pony to make her a reliable daily driver. Needless to say I have a lot more money in it than I am asking for. I love this car and intended to keep it long term. I purchased it as a spare for my family’s use when I retired since a Pinto was my first car when I was in high school and I always wanted another. The problem is my wife and daughter do not know how to drive a stick and refuse to learn. Additionally, my wife has been hinting around that she would prefer a Chevy Spark when it comes out soon. Soooooooo, I am grudgingly putting my baby up for sale. Below is a list of the mechanical work I’ve done to this car and I have the receipts to prove it. I figure I have at least $6,000 in the car. I intentionally do not add up all the receipts because I fear it could be a bunch more! You can buy a cheep $300 Pinto, but you won’t find one in this condition for this price.  Since this car does not have AC the original owner in Florida rarely drove it during the warm mouths, thus the low miles. He passed away and his wife got a replacement title from the DMV.  I currently have tagged and state inspected. Here is a list of the work I’ve personally done or had done to this car so just imagine what it all cost me!

Brake system
New master cylinder, new calibers and pads on both front sides, both rotors turned and all for front wheel bearings and races and hub seals have been replaced. Both front rubber brake hoses and the rear rubber brake hose have also been replaced. New rear wheel cylinders, shoes and both have been drums turned.

Under the hood
Basically everything under the hood has been replaced except the carburetor, starter, computer module and engine itself. The following has been replaced: battery, coil, battery cables, solenoid, timing belt, fuel pump, all belts,

Fuel system
New fuel pump, fuel filter, all the rubber fuel hoses have been replaced (in three all locations from the carburetor back to the gas tank)

Cooling system
New water pump, thermostat, all new heater hoses and radiator hoses, and a new the heat core has been installed. The radiator has been refurbished and new antifreeze installed.

Electrical system
New alternator, horn and regulator, replaced dash board instrument cluster so now all the gauges work perfectly. Replaced the wind shield wiper switch and the column mounted turning signal mechanism and the turn switch itself.

Tune up
Cap, rotor, wires, plugs, fuel filter, air filter, all the vacuum hoses, wind shield wipers

Drive train
Both the transmission and rear end have had their oil completely replaced. The trans has a new oil seal at the drive shaft and the rear end’s backing plate has a new gasket.  New tires all around. Obviously, the front end steering has been lubricated, new front wheel bearings, races and seals installed.

Exterior
The car has been completely repainted the original factory blue, new radio antenna. New window sweeps inside and out (the sweeps were $100 alone).

Interior
New head liner. New hard plastic dash board cover (looks great, like new and cost me $100), interior has been totally stained. The front seats are in surprisingly good condition with only the driver’s seat have some minor cracking (no tears).  I installed modern two faze three point seat belts for both front seats for safety. They are superior to the original stock version belts. Door weather stripping on the passenger’s side door and new door window guides on both sides.
