Aftermarket Or Custom Bumpers, Anyone?
« on: May 05, 2015, 09:54:18 PM »
I was wondering if anyone has ever found or put on an aftermarket or just some other bumper on a Pinto. I'm pleased with my '73 front bumper (but need rubber strips) but the rear on my wagon just looks kinda funny. Not to mention that it's all wonky.

So let me know what you have seen or have done!
And post a picture!
Maybe let me know where I could get a hold of something or give me an idea!

-Thank ya thank ya

Here is a trick I have done many years ago , one if you do find a new NOS or a recromed bumper they want gold for it,and they do bend easy , I take a 77 or 78 alum bumper and cut the bottom part of it off with a jig saw, take your time, then polish it out, drill holes and bolt it on, looks like a steel bumper but no rust , just one more idea for you guys (and lady's ) Later Blaine

Have you seen the fiberglass ones? I'm thinking they would look good painted black or chrome?

Yes I have seen them, but they are only for looks and weight , they do get extra crunchy when you bump into it, I like to have the chance of protecting the hood and fenders along with the trunk lid as much as posable from careless parking lot drivers , the 74 to 76 bumpers are the best for inflcking damage to the new cars, a few months ago I had real moron back their Honda into the front of my 76 and thought they knocked the grill out of it they hit it so hard, lucky it did not and not even a scratch on mine, but the Honda was messed up and did set off its fuel pump impact switch and had to be towed , 😁

DO NOT BUY FROM THIS GUY! He is in Canada and you have no recourse from the states if you give him money. He knows this and will extort any money he can from you. 1st the "exchange" rate has changed so you owe him more money. 2nd he "underestimated" the shipping to the US so you owe him more money. 3rd he doesn't fill out the customs paperwork correctly so it gets held in customs for weeks. THEN you get poorly made, ill fitting junk after all the hassle.

I guess the bottom line is to re-chrome mine one day. I just thought they would have looked good and painted black or chrome. They are basically for looks anyway. But again, I guess I want some protection.

The exchange rate is good for the US right now though. For $105 it would only cost you $86.92 Canadian, so I thought it was good. But if he sux, then it wouldn't be too good :(

Exchange rate is 1 USD to .80 CDN. It's why I quit buying from the States for a while now, except for small parts I really, really, need.

As oil prices go up Reeves, your dollar will also along with the job market. Actually, I think the labor market report was good and the Canadian dollar went up. My PBX sales to Canada are hurting now :(

Job market good ?
Between oil prices way too low & now the NDP in AB - jobs are going down like a flushed toilet.
All kinds of projects all across the Province are being canceled. Some projects are on going, because they "have too". Those projects are now being treated like every dollar spent is painful.
Drilling has ground to a halt.

Well, down here it looks like it's improving from the articles I've read. I'm hoping it rebounds quickly since we import to Canada and the low dollar is hurting my sales there. It does look like it is improving though. It's at .83 now and looks better right now actually from the lows I remember. Gas prices are climbing again and even here they are starting again on oil.

Well, I hope it gets better!
