CL find: '77 hatch in need of rescue
« on: March 01, 2015, 11:17:07 AM »
Hey y'all, first time back in a while. And my first subject is alarmist:

http://seattle.craigslist.org/kit/ptd/4910263431.html

Look at this thing! Look how clean, straight and complete it is! I can't imagine why you'd part that out.

I have a head laying around... before long, I'll have a stock carb and intake laying around too. I am sorely tempted to go rescue this poor thing.

Anybody in Western Washington want to adopt a Pinto?

That looks pretty awesome unless, of course, a lot of stuff has already been sold off it.  Somebody really should latch onto that one if at all possible!

That's what I'm wondering... the ad's only a couple days old, and all it says is that the head, carb and intake are gone. Who knows, maybe the engine's blown. But the rest of the car looks damned near perfect or at least unmolested. The paint looks original and the interior looks (nicely) reupholstered. If it still looks like it does in the pics... hot damn.

I wonder if a AAA flatbed would fit on the Bremerton ferry? :P

Un-effing-believable. So out of curiosity (and concern) I called this guy. It went sorta like this:

Me: "So it looks like a pretty clean, complete car, huh?"
Him: (mumbling) "Yup. Was."
Me: "Was. So what's missing?"
Him: "Front suspension's cut off."
Me: "Ah, of course it -- wait... cut off?"
Him: "Yup, cut off at the firewall."
Me: "Huh. So, you *had* a pretty nice car but now it's cut into pieces?"
Him: "Yup. All it needed was a head."

Thing is, it had a head before he sold it. It's not often I want to yell at people. You had a cherry example of a (relatively) rare car and let some hick with a sawzall ruin it? To get what, a couple hundred bones? You could have sold the whole car, made money, and not had the thing rusting and moldering in your yard for weeks/months on end before you settled for scrap value.

What a senseless waste. I can't help but be furious!

Well, if anyone needs green interior parts in excellent shape, here you go.

I have crossed people like that, even one that they think they are fixing up a pinto by cutting.it up to make the unbelevable fit, and wind up wasting a good pinto,  even though they cut the front end off (hope they took the fenders off before they cut) you could find a trashed pinto and drill out the spot welds and install them on that one , they started to do the older mustangs that way years ago when they staerted to get hard to find , now look what they are worth, so the pinto is next, now that the car is cut up you maybe could buy it cheep, if it were near me I would,  got a place to put it, even to get it away from the morons out there :o

This car has been for sale for about a year now. Looks like a wrecking yard is selling it too.

Oh, well then they are looking to sell the parts or the car. I would think that it would be a pretty cool car to have!

Has it been, Tigger? Strange that I haven't seen it before now (that I recall). I check around CL for Pintos and project-related stuff every so often. Bums me out that I (or someone) didn't catch it sooner.

Isn't that color wild, Dianne? I feel like I've been seeing it a lot on old Fords lately. Anyone know that color's name?

Whatever it is, I like it. It's some sort of seafoam green! That would make a perfect Pinchero!

Yes it has been on there for a while.

I know what you mean.... I have saved 3 so far from the scrap yard in the last 10 years however car number two finally succumbed to the tin worm.  The car was rusty when I got it but it ran so good that I did not have the heart to kill it.  It lived on for another 6 or so years and probably another 20-30K miles before it was decommissioned .  I understand it is going to become a race car now.

I believe the color is light green emerald.
