Originally the battery had a couple brackets & was sitting on the tank. Only 4 spots of some kind of epoxy was (not) holding it to the tank.
Didn't like the way it was in there.
Made a shelf/bracket & also installed a kill switch. Shutting it off will kill the car.
Original builder had 2 hot wires and a ground (all size 4 welding cable) going all the way to the front. I pulled all that out. One hot cable & the ground had welding type joiners.
I now have one hot cable.
Grounded to the sub frame at the back.
Likely cut 5+ lbs of copper out of the equation !

If you look back at/near the start, you'll see the battery mount .
Also the Tach was mounted near my right knee. Bad location.
I made a new mount & now it's in my sight line, where I wanted it.

Dash color strange ?
It's semi gloss black.
Same as my parts car - factory.

Dash pad was recovered at some past time. Whoever did it, did a nice job.

The dust on everything is my personal touch  ;D

Got a start on re-installing the carpet. Pictures keep turning out dark - so pictures later.
Got most of the engine compartment wiring done. More to do after the engine is back.
New rack mounted. Passenger side bracket has been sand blasted - will install after paint has dried.
Lucked out on the rubber being in mint shape.

Note the 90 degree fittings on the heater hoses. Wanted a "clean" install, and ran them down the inner fenders.
Nice blue silicone hoses !

All bolts, nuts, washers, screws  etc have been replaced with new.

All hose clamps have been replaced with banded clamps.

What did you use for the 90 deg bends on the heater hoses? I like that idea very much. Much cleaner all the way around.

NAPA
3/4 elbow connector 9925
5/8 elbow connector 9924

Behind the catch tank for the rad I reduced the 3/4 hose to 5/8 with reducer connector 9911

Used banded clamps. Looks much nicer when no rubber/silicone is sticking through the slots.

Interior back in. Couple paint chips to fix. I have to make a bolt in tube to attach the shoulder harnesses. For now they are attached to the top bar.

Define simple LOL.... My wagon driver is a parts car that will get stripped & scrapped in a couple more years.

I can't get the NOS carb sorted & the resulting 14 mpg has led to a freshened 2.3 sitting in the garage, new clutch/flywheel/T5 trans to replace the automatic, pedals/ clutch cable, new Weber 38, NOS distributor, NOS Duraspark box, new header, new Dynomax muffler, freshly bushed control arms with new ball joints & a freshened manual rack to get rid of the worn power rack. I've probably spent $1500 so far.

All this to keep my beater running another couple years until I get the new body whipped into shape & all because 2 different carbs & 50 hours of fiddling under the hood leaves my engine running rough & getting 14 mpg just like it did "BEFORE" I laid a finger on it.

Yeah, "SIMPLE" !!

Called the engine builder yesterday. Said the pistons etc are due to arrive any day.....two months late. So far. >:(

I've got the wiring done as far as I can go , without the engine in place.
Outside of inner fenders has a new coat of "tar".
Frame rails painted.
I need to take the swing arms in to press out the old bushings & push the new ones in.
Then blast them & paint......
New brake lines to the back done.
Need to run new fronts next.

DUH !

I normally double & triple check stuff.....
Was told the Wilwood brake kit I needed is kit # 140-11017

Wrong !

Was assembling the right side swing arms etc & test fit.....and the first part is the caliper bracket.
Not hard to see it wasn't even close.

Everything else seems to fit right....maybe just need the other bracket from the right kit , # 140-1013 ?
I'll e-mail Wilwood to find out.

If I have to buy the whole kit # 140-1013.......I'll have the 74 - 78 kit up for sale soon.

or

Maybe someone was planning to do the 74 - 78 brake up-grade....they could buy my kit, send to me. I would then send this kit to you. Even give the person a break on the price ?

I have the Wilwood 140-10440-BD kit for mine. It was going on the 76 wagon but now I plan to use it on the 72 so I guess I'm in the same boat except my set can't use any other caliper brackets. I may try the late spindles on it.

Wilwood got back to me & said a person can buy just the caliper brackets.
However, he did not say if that was the only difference in the kits.

I'm going to (try) and sell mine. Get the whole (right) kit.

It should be the only difference. Can Wilwood supply a list with part numbers to compare both kits?

Just checked.
If you scroll to the bottom of the Wilwood page there is a PDF.
Clicked on it & scrolled down to page 2 & it shows the parts numbers.
I'll compare later.

Thanks for pointing that out....I didn't think of that ! (another DUH ! Must be getting old ! LOL !)

Printed out the first pages of each PDF for both sets.
Right one is supposed to be kit # 140-1013.
Look at the caliper bracket.
My head isn't wrapping around how it's the right one, if you look at a disk brake spindle on a 72.
No time to read right now between 3 & 4 AM.
I'll read at work, where I have more time  ;D

The drawing for my kit looks correct.

http://www.wilwood.com/BrakeKits/BrakeKitsProdFront.aspx?itemno=140-10440-BD

The drawing for the 71-73 kit looks like it bolts in place of the dust shields

http://www.wilwood.com/BrakeKits/BrakeKitsProdFront.aspx?itemno=140-1013-B

I have a pair of stock 77 spindles I can send you with the oil pan if you want to try them. I keep hearing they bolt right on early cars with the only difference being a 3/4" ride height change.

Read the two print outs yesterday.
Too many different parts to mix & match.

I was off work a bit early so I called Wilwood. Every one busy so left my phone number.
Of course....they didn't call back.

I've put the kit I have up for sale here in AB first, as I offered to eat the tax & shipping.

Thanks for the parts offer, but I'll leave the ones I have on.
The tie rod ends on yours would be bigger as well.

The old adjustable Koni shocks will be replaced with 90/10s......when/if I find a set.

The original black powder coat was tough !
Tried paint stripper - wouldn't touch it.
Started sand blasting & knew it would be hours & truck loads of sand.
Took them to town to a place called "The Head Doctor". He put them in his hot tank.
Picked them up the next day & they were 100% clean to bare metal.
He didn't charge me for it. We did some wheeling/dealing in the past. He is the fellow I got the closed chamber heads from.

holy cow, you've done some really nice and(expensive) work to ur pinto!! you have more $ in the first engine build than my whole car after the new paint(i hope). well, im sure its a labour of love..right? ;)
