slightly modded 2.3 in a 79 pinto road racing lemons

going to a t5 and was looking at aluminum flywheel;s

any suggestions? anyone got a used one?

Best place is the 4m.com web site. They have a good classified column. Make sure the flywheel is drilled for the size clutch you have. They come in stock / 51/2" / 9" so make sure you get the right one. Speedway has a 9# steel  flywheel that is cheaper than the aluminum ones. My last aluminum one also was 9#.

Do you have a part number or link to the 9# flywheel?

all I could find was an 11#

It is on page 359 of their new Race catalog, in the pony stock section. Part # 605-1535. It is listed as 9 1/2 lbs and is $249. The picture shows it to be for a stock clutch. If you have an old catalog, just look in the pony stock section. 99% in that section is for a 2300 engine. Good stuff.

You will need the throw out bearing listed with it as the flywheel is thinner and requires a longer bearing.  When you get the bearing, take it to a really good parts man and find out what it really is made for, so you can buy one if necessary some day cheaper.

OK I cant seem to locate the part # for the Throwout bearing

I am putting in a T5 also if that matters, the 4 speed is cracked very badly at the bellhousing.

     Solid motor mounts will crack bellhousing and tranies. Never use them.

X2 for sure if that's been done. Best way to crunch a trans there is.  10X as fast if motor mounts are rubber and solid trans mount. You just can't do it.

The speedway flywheel is 135 teeth on the ring gear versus stock 132.

Will this cause any issues with a starter for a 132 teeth flywheel?

I use a late 80's Ranger starter with one of those flywheels. The starter is just like a hi torque mini starter at 1/4 the price. It'll turn over a 2.3L like there's no spark plugs in the motor. Try it / you'll like it.
