Air Conditioning?
« on: August 26, 2015, 05:11:31 AM »
Someone removed the factory air from my 1973 Pinto Runabout. Should I try to find an old stock system to put back in it or is there a good modern alternative?

Did they remove everything or just what's under the hood, the 71 to 73 unit under the dash was all by itself, and a real pain to just change the motor if you had to, but do not know if the newer 74 up units might fit or not, but I have seen aftermarket heater/AC systems for older cars the are very small, check Classic Air and see what they got ,,

Hey pintoman, please post some photos of your A/C set up , a picture is a thousand words , but we don't know if his whole system is removed or just under the hood , but he has a 73 and might still have the 2.0 in it and the brackets to hold the compressed are getting hard to find ,

No brackets. Everything under the hood was removed. Just a space left to put one in.

Well if they left everything under the dash and tubes to the expantion valve are still there and not damaged your more than half way to get it up and running, the location of the compressor on a factory car is on the passenger side, alternator is on the divers side , add on air is the other way around , and you should have a double pulley , I have seen over the years that a engine change people would put an engine from a non AC pinto and just yank everything out , got a compressor if you want it but have no engine brackets , guess the front condenser is gone also, you may find one here or go to a you pull it and find the largest one that will fit , the newer 134 gas needs Ito have a larger one to work better , then you can have hoses made to fit along with a new dryer then your good to go, unless the ones who did the hack job cut the tubes off the evaporator at the firewall , 😵
