V6 Fan Pulley A/C car
« on: February 06, 2016, 07:39:24 PM »
I am looking for the Fan pulley for a V6 with air. I put air on my car and learned that the Pulley is smaller, for more coolant circulation. Mine is the larger non a/c pulley. If any one has one let me know.

It is a half inch smaller , but n one way it's good and one way it's bad , yes it helps cooling in stop and go driving , bad it wears out the belt faster , and wears out very fast when your on the hwy a lot , If the belt breaks then you have a very short time to catch it and you crack the heads , I did
it before one time , ford saw this and fixed it by adding extra pulleys for more belts to drive the water pump in case one of the breaks , BUT , the water pump is different , and the timing cover that holds it is too, the plus side is the newer pump has huge bearings to take the load of the extra belts , and the pulleys are the same size as the A/C pulleys , if I have to pull my pump in the future I will convert it to the new style , and extra it has a screw on fan clutch and lose that howling metal fan ,

Do you really think the belt will wear out that much faster? the belt will still be turning the same speed, the speed of the crank. Also I had the same thing happen to me belt shredded and overheated quickly,  too late to save my heads. I have a temp and alt gauge. I watch the temp a lot, but what would it take to put in an Alt idiot light? If the belt breaks the light would come on and I would know to stop

And hook the alt to a buzzer , the belt wears out because the pulleys are small and not much belt area to drive the alternator , water pump and a fan , Most V-6 pintos have a 3 to one rear end ratio , so the engine is spooled up to close 3000 rpm at hwy speeds and the fan really it's a load on the belt , grab a ruler and see how much of the belt is on the crank pulley , also the is one of the reasons they put that huge 90 amp alt on all the 2.8 pintos , the crank pulley was too small and not enough rpm for the small alternator , found this out years ago when I put a 55 Amp on a 2.8 pinto I had back then , yep the lights dimmed with the A/C on , hope this gives you the idea , later Blaine

I was thinking a buzzer would be a good idea. How would I wire one in ?

Since you have a Cruze wagon you have a gauge , so you have to buy a sensor fo a stock pinto , it has a so called idiot light , it makes a ground when the temp get to high , there should be an extra plug on top of the outlet housing to put it , you can hook up the old seatbelt buzzer or something real loud , train horn , burglar alarm etc
