Topic: Can't remember how 4-speed shifter boot goes in carpet!

Took my 1973 Runabout apart in 1995 and am only now putting it back together. Found a NOS stick shift boot on E-Bay! But I can't remember how the old one went in so long ago.


Anyone got a close-up picture of the OEM installation?


I think the shifter boot was screwed in the floorpan BEFORE the carpet was installed, and a circle was cut out of the carpet. Then the edges of the carpet must have encircled the bottom-most fold of the shift boot. I can't remember any decorative flange being screwed in above the carpet. Or did I lose that?


The few Pintos around here are either automatic or with such torn-up carpet I can't tell the details of the installation! I am trying to keep mine original.

the boot goes in first , then the carpet , it is kind of a pain when you have to remove the trans to replace the clutch , you had to bend up the finger cutting tangs to unscrew the shifter from the bottom of the car, and then cut your fingers all up trying to screw the dam thing in without messing up the plastic thread's , good luck , Blaine
