Seat suggestions.
« on: February 05, 2015, 12:51:22 PM »
I'm a tall guy, 6'5" maybe 6'4" at the end of a good day. I would like to find some seats to put in that sit lower and slide back a little more. I would like them to fit the retro-ish look, nothing too modern. Optimally a ford product. Thanks.

A couple options that I'm looking at are...Recaros from a 79-82 fox body, with after market/Recaro seat rails. Other cars like 79-80 T/A's has Recaro option as many German cars from the 70's into the 80's

I put the seats from  my 88 Turbo Coupe into my Pinto.  Not sure if that meets your criteria. In my 73 Pinto just the fact that thee seat reclined helped a lot.  I opted to convert the seats to the Pinto tracks.  They are a bit tight side to side. Here is a post from a while back. http://www.fordpinto.com/index.php?topic=11742.msg75729#msg75729

my favorite seats to use for bucket swaps are the cloth ones from the generals men.  Smacked up cobalt or whatever.     cheap and plentiful.   anything fox body, sn95 or even s197 will be close on the width of the holes left to right though.    unbolt the factory tracks on the pinto seats run a couple strips of 1/8th by 3/4 bar across the bolt holes of your new ones and locate them as you want em if required.  drill some holes to tie the two together n bobs yer uncle.  most of the height difference is in the fact the pinto seats are tall at the cushion but most new stuff isn't as thick (you sit in em not on em)

so basically what wittsend said.  BTW I like the turbocoupe gut swap.
Modest beginnings start with the single blow of a horn man..    Now when you get through with this thing every dickhead in the world is gonna wanna own it.   Do you know anything at all about the internal combustion engine?

I'm 6'3" and in all my pintos for more head room I removed 2 of the 4 rubber bumpers between the seat back and seat to gain a inch or to headroom plus a nice recline position

I saw that fix in Hot Rod when Pintos were new. Still works ok. Take all 4 bumpers out if you want to play "low rider".
Its better to be a has-been, than a never was.
