I hear all kinds of things from they were the same minus body panels and dashboard to they were completely different cars altogether.

Anyone have the straight scoop?  ???

Quick answer for now.
More different than the same. 74 up Pinto same front suspension. Same rear axles. Some engines the same, Pinto never came with a 302.  Brakes the same pretty much.
Bodies completely different. Rear suspension completely different. Interior almost completely different, the console swaps. Seats may swap, but not the same. Door panels different. Dash different.
Tires/rims swapable, lug patterns the same.
I'm probably forgetting some but it's been a long day. There have been other posts on this subject if you really want details.
At one point I had a 75? Mustang II and a 79 Pinto in the same garage, tried swapping lots of II parts onto the Pinto. II was being scrapped.
