it is an unfortunate reality that as these cars get more Popular the cost of parts and cars is going to go up.  The low cost is one of the great things about the Pinto.....

NOBODY is going to spend that kind of money on an interior, even if it is NOS. I saw the auction days ago and wanted to ask the seller "what he was smoking". Actually, I think I know who the seller is, which made me want to ask that much more  :P.

Dream on!!

I would LOVE to have all of that for my Wagon project, but wouldn't dream of paying that much for it. :(

I wouldn't buy these parts for $2700 either, but mainly because it's the wrong color for my Pinto, plus I have no intention of building my Pinto to that level of restoration... all I ever wanted was something to drive a few days a week and have some fun with.  On the other hand, I disagree when you say the parts are overpriced.  They are NOS, and they definitely aren't making them anymore!  It depends on your finances, and your intentions, but NOS means money.  Compared to NOS parts I've bought for Lincolns and Roll-Royces, $2700 is a mere pittance.

Cool Dwayne, putting Pintos in the same league as Lincolns and Rolls'!!
$2700 is more than the whole Pinto cost in '73!  :amazed:
If you don't have time to do it right, when will you have time to do it over?

Dwayne is right.Restorer s of that caliber as in 100 point cars think nothing of speeding money on things like that if they are NOS.
I remember back when i was an automotive machinist in florida and a guy brought me this connecting rod that had spun a berging and asked if I could save it?  I told him I could try but it was going to take time and cost money.  His reply was i don't car what it cost, i need the connecting rod......  So I asked what it was from and he told me it was from a maseratti engine and there were no more in the world as in I was holding the last one.  Well i did it but it cost him a great deal because of the time it takes.

The point of this is high point restorers will spend what is neccessary to get it right.  Naturally somebody hears about a special case and all of a sudden those nasty old parts have got to be worth more!!!

Thanks for backing me up there, Jim.  It's true those parts are selling for more than a new Pinto did back in the day, but there are other things to take into consideration.  At the time, Ford was selling Pintos as fast as they could crank them out!  They were pretty much a dime a dozen, so to speak.  How often do you get a chance to buy NOS authentic Ford Pinto parts nowdays?

As I said earlier, I'm not planning to build mine into a show car, but that doesn't mean other people aren't.  If I were, I'd jump at the chance to get my hands on NEW door panels, dash, carpet, upholsery, etc.  As it is, I paid about $90 for my NOS parking light lenses, and over $400 for NOS bodyside moldings, even though I'm still doing my Pinto more or less on the cheap side.  A NOS seat cover for only ONE seat in a Rolls would easily cost twice what the entire interior for the Pinto is selling for.  I used Rolls-Royce and Lincoln as my comparison factors because they are the other two brands of cars I've owned as "collectibles", and I can tell you from personal experience, they can be VERY expensive to restore/maintain.

One more thing, then I'll get off my soapbox.  I know the economy isn't great right now, but I'm willing to bet that most of us could lay our hands on $2700 today a lot easier than they could have in the 1970's!  I still think the parts are worth the money.

Cool, now the Pinto is just as good as a Maserati.
Will the next poster please tell me the Pinto is just as good as an Enzo Ferrari and definitely better then a Lamborghini Countach!
I let my Pinto sit outside for ten years, twice a year someone would stop and try to buy it, what was I thinking?
