Pinto Pangra discovered in North Texas!!!
« on: January 08, 2009, 04:13:57 PM »
Wow - had quite an experience today....

As I was heading down to the radiator shop to check on my gas tank repair (on this beautiful 70+ degree JANUARY day -  ;D), I noticed the rear end of a Pinto two door (covered with a tarp) outside of a body shop on the main road, about four miles from me. Curious, I bothered to pull up to the facility on the way back, and I was greeted by the owner.

Turns out it was a body shop, that has no markings, and the only thing that queued me was the car sitting out front. The owner came out, and I stated "Pinto, eh"? He said - "yes, and we started walking towars it. I immediately told him that I had a '76 wagon I was restoring. After short banter, he pulled back the tarp. I IMMEDIATELY yelled out "a Pangra? No way!" He looks puzzled at me and says "you KNOW what a Pangra is"? I smiled....

OK, this car is a 1973 Pangra 2 door, blue, partially primered. It had been sitting in another spot for 20 years when he approached the owner. It has the original tubocharged 2.0L motor and all equipment. The doors were off, and the interior is 100% factory for the Pangra - extended dash cap, fascia, gauges, wood wheel, correct seats, etc. He paid $2k for it - a STEAL - though he thought he paid too much. His comment was - "Hey - EVERYBODY has a Mustang, but when you take something like THIS to a car show, the crowds gather". INDEED.

I told him about the PCCA group, and encouraged him to vist. Oh, his shop? It had a "65, "69 Shelby GT500, '69, and '70 Mustangs inside, being completely restored (we're talking tubular frames, smoothed firewalls, modern engines, etc....REAL special stuff. The guy is an artist. He also had a '72 Olds 442 W-30 - his mother's car - completely restored. Unbelieveable.

He told me that they will be pushing the Pinto back in tonite at 6, and invited me to come back. Even though I think it was a joke, I will be there - with my camera - so stay tuned. Sorry I did not have a pic to share right now. This was a really exciting find for me. Maybe I need to make him an offer... ;)

Yeah, offering him what he paid occurred to me - since he has so many cars...

I went back to catch some sunlight for photos, everyone was gone but I still got to take pics.

Hot ziggity! I would have been just as stoked to find a Pangra in my own state!

You should tag along for the restoration ride of it and you'll probably get the chance to take it for a spin or two!

Hopefully he comes over to the PCCA and we can get another Pangra on board!

Amazing find.... 8)

WOW... That car is EXACTLY the same color as my 73 Pangra was before I painted it black.

Yes, this is no doubt an original Huntington Ford Pangra. AND the only one I know of with air conditioning. Also, it still has the water injector on it. Please get as many pictures of the motor as you can including the water injector. See if ti has badges ( Pangra ) on the dash as well as any where else.

Take TONS of pictures.

Sell a kidney if you want it! One day, these cars will be worth a mint and what he is asking now is pennies with respect to what it will one day be worth. That car is super complete and in great shape for a resto.

Mike (disco pinto owner) has two pangra's with dealer A/C. Plus mine has Factory air. I cant imagine WHY  Huntington Ford would do this. My car retailed for $7200 bucks and they didn't know why pangra's didn't sell? LOL! Well add A/C! That will drop the price right?
I have many Pintos, I like them....

Yeah, agreed, I need to visit often and see what I can work out with this guy. It would be well worth my time and effort. Kinda puts all the effort I am putting into my '76 MPG wagon that less important. Who'd have thought I'd see one of these cars in its "native" form, ever? It was a real treat, obviously.

I've been thinking about this all day since I read your post. I really wish I had a Pangra. :(

Still thrilled to own a Pinto though! ;D
