Hi Mike. I give you both thumbs up for keeping your long and well-running '76 wagon, well, up and running! My '71 doesn't have as many miles on her but she's racking up memories for me as well as miles on her!  ;D

My 73 wagon has one of these types of emblems on the lift gate. Says "Anser Payette". Was the dealership the wagon was purchased from. Neat piece of hte car's history. :)

None of my cars ever had a dealer emblem but I agree that they're a great part of your car's history. I love the state of South Carolina, so when I came across a car in the wrecking yard out here that had one from Palmetto Ford in Charleston I had to grab it! I don't remember what car it came off of but it must've been a Mustang, Pinto, or Maverick. Those were the only cars I looked at! I still have that emblem.
One can never have too many Pintos!

A narrow length of 3M trim mounting tape (the gray stuff with the peel-off red backing), applied to the solid portion of the emblem will secure it to the vehicle without a problem.  I took a slightly different tactic with the one that was on the back of my '79 Collector's Series Lincoln Continental.  I had a high-dollar, show-quality repaint done on it about five years ago, at which time we removed the emblem.  The manager of the bodyshop that did the work photographed the progress daily over the seven weeks they spent stripping, disassembling, refinishing, and reassembling the car.  We used those photos, the original sales papers, advertising materials, photos of the original owners and as much of the car's history as we could assemble (provided by their relatives/heirs) to assemble a scrapbook dedicated to the car.  That emblem was added to the book in the section containing the original sales paperwork.  We display the book whenever we show the car.  Interestingly, it is the only one of my "collectible" cars that still had the original dealer emblem!
