Air Dam
« on: December 10, 2010, 06:40:11 PM »
I would like to put an air dam on the front of my '78. I know finding an "actual" Pinto air dam is next to impossible. Is there somewhere that sells basic air dams, like universal cut to fit type? Anyone have any ideas? I am looking for something that I can buy and mold it to fit. I am not into fiberglassing a mold myself.

Well having a rear spoiler would be awesome too, but mine is the glass back. That makes it nearly impossible to put a spoiler on it. I would like an air dam and mild side skirts.

What is this hot pants kit? The wagons and sedans have the same wheel base dimensions front to back, so his hot pants kit must also include rear skirts as well. I just had an alighnment done my my car, and the shop's computer only listed a Pinto Wagon. So the shop measured the wheel base of my Runabout and compaired it to the '78 wagon on thier computers and they matched. So they used the wagon specs to align my car. That is how I know they wheel bases are the same, at least in '78 anyhow. Ford just added extra inches to the rear for a wagon.

OK, i just checked out the HOT PANTS kit for the Pinto. I am DEFINATELY wanting that on my car. He is even designing a new front bumper for the earlier model pintos. It won't fit my '78, but it sure looks good. Gives me ideas for my own car for sure. I bet an early 90's Buick Skylark front bumper may fit my '78 since I have the bird beek bumper.

Really like that air damn, looks great.  i did a little different look with a 1970 boss mustang valance and spoiler.  i used a 1970 pinto valance as a guide to cut and fab the mustang valance to fit.  I lined up the bolt holes to the pinto valance and then it went on the 1977 Pinto without issue.

Here is the video that has some clips of the install.
