I started my pinto 2.3 turbo project and the engine is in! I still need to wire it and put my 8 inch diff in as well as find or make a driveline fit. The engine is completely stock so far. i am going to get a manual boost controller for it and a front mount intercooler. I want to know if the 2.5 inch exhaust off the turbo going into 3 and out would be better than just 2.5 the entire way and also if there is any chips for the 85 turbo coupe ecu. i want to eventually go with bigger injectors and a bigger turbo. the t3 will be fine for now. I also am not a huge fan of the huge mass air flow sensor! it is ridiculous and i want a better looking one. Is there any aftermarket ones? and here is a video of it if i can figure this out.

Well welcome to the site first off! Second for your questions 2.5 to 3 inch will be better then 2.5 inch exhaust and a 3inch all the way off the turbo would be the best.  If your planning on turning up the boost get yourself a 255lph walboro so you wont have to do it later too much fuels always better then not enough.

For chips Moates quarter horse is used by alot of people works great to tune the stock ecu.

On the subject of the air meter theres a couple ways to get rid of it an these are them.
1-Go to a stand alone like megasquirt.
2-After buying Quarter Horse do a MAF swap they are alot smaller and then a BOV can be used.
3-Using Quarter Horse use SVOjons tune to run the motor as a speed density system. This is the one i plan on doing.

all the info on any of this can be found on http://www.turboford.org/

I'm running 3" exhaust from the T3 starting with a 3" down pipe from Stinger (modded for a better fit in the Pinto) thru a cat and a turbo muffler (both bought from Summit).  The turbo muffler has the exact dimensions as the stock muffler and mounts as if stock except for the big holes on either end  :) .  My Pinto is lowered three inches and the exhaust does not scrape on sharp driveway edges or parking lot speed bumps.

Only pic I have of the exhaust.  I chopped and wacked a couple of 180* mandrels down to where the double muffler clamps are.  From there forward have since be redone a muffler shop to tuck it up more (I had a h3ll of a time figuring where to bend and how much with the Pinto up on jack stands and me laying on my back.  ::)

If you're going to a fmic, the ECU from an intercooled '87/88 Turbocoupe (LA2/LA3)will support close to 400hp IIRC.

PS cat because in Oregon, anything '75 and later gets smogged checked.

Plugs in, but minor repin required: http://www.rothfam.com/svo/reference/PEtoLA.pdf

When I repinned, I hardwired for premium only

Couple of sites to look at:

www.turbopinto.com (VERY laid-back  :D )
www.turboford.net (read a lot before asking questions)

As mike has said it'll will need re-pinned also wires for the Act sensor will need to be added and if ya want you can put the switch in for premium mode but its easier to do what mike and i both did and just hard wire it.

Also you will need the brown top injectors (unless your car has them mid year in 85 they started putting them in).You will also need the large vam and a intercooler since the ecu is setup for using one.
