what to do about seats and interior
« on: November 24, 2009, 09:39:06 PM »
I have a gutted 77 pinto that needs an interior.  All the pinto seats I find are trashed, are there any other ford cars that I can use seats from? Or any other seats that work well?

All the plastic I have is orange,  I would like black.  Is there a way I paint them?

Is ther a place to get floor pans?

When it rains water leaks in from behind the dash.  This has been the case on two of my pintos.  Is there an easy fix?  I dont believe it to  be a seal

My 78 wagon leaked thru the wiper posts as well as the pinch seams under hood and the fenders.  Other place to check is the cowl or the air vents.  The last place could be the windshield gasket.

Currently, floor pans are only available used or if you fab something.

I have a decent used drivers side if you are interested.

I hear SEMS paint is good for plastic but I have never used it.

I just dont think its fair that we pinto lovers should have to crawl through a dirty old junk yard in search of seats while mustang guys can order brand new repros.Even if someone could manufacture seat covers that resemble the old pinto patterns would be decent. Also, floor pans, cripes, mustang floor pans are a dime a friggen dozen.

hey Tigger, this is Ronnie from Oklahoma, I am fixing up a 78' pinto,  my interior is in decent shape but my drivers side seat isn't that good, do you still have the one listed and if so, what do you want for it.  Respond on this or give me a call at 918-448-5685

Thanks
Ronnie

I've never painted seats, but being as black is almost certainly the most common color ever put in a Pinto, you might be able to pick a set up cheap somewhere. In the next issue of Pinto Times I'm going to cut and weld a floor into my Bobcat hatchback, and will make patterns. I've faced the same issue and have purchased floor pans (From Tigger) to use. If I end up not using them because I actually get the floor welded in without burning down the garage (Given my history, a very real possibility) I'll put them in the site classifieds.

SEM vinyl dye works quite well for refreshing the color of vinyl or leather seats, however I wouldn't recommend it for a color change.  I bought a used Chrysler Sebring convertible in 2007 and the seats were looking a little rough so I took it to a professional interior reconditioning person.  He filled a few cracks in the leather, repaired a small hole, and then redyed the whole interior (two-tone navy and cream).  It turned out great and he used plain old SEM vinyl dye in a rattle can right off the shelf for the cream part (he had to custom mix the navy to get the color right).  I kept the car for well over a year before trading it in on a new '08 convertible and the seats still looked fantastic.  Color was still good and never noticed any residue or anything on clothing.

My interior was red(and i hated it)So i painted all the interior panels with SEM color coat from a spray bomb.I changed my pinto from a silver exterior with red interior to a orange ext with beige int.Looks great,i was lucky and found a set of beige seats so didnt have to paint those. But this paint covered them panels almost with one coat.Sticks real good too.I dont know whats gonna happen when feet start scuffing against them. All i know is theres gonna be asses kicked id theres any tantrums thrown in the car, lol.

I did a color change on the interior of my Ford F-150 over five years ago using SEM vinyl dye, and it still looks great.  Took it from red to blue and dyed everything except the seats (those I had re-upholstered).  The nice thing about that product is that touchups are easy if/when they are needed.

In my humble opinion, I would hate to see orange interior pieces painted. Orange seems pretty hard to come by. A better thing would be to exchange  for the wanted black interior... or sell the orange and buy black. But then I AM a dreamer... lol.  ::)

Anyone have any ideas where to find the "deluxe" wood grain door panels and dash bar?

Fred Morgan (on this site) would be as good a place to look as any!  He usually has whatever you need.

I have put in seats from a ford tempo and they fit really good and no one knows the difference.
