Wagon sway bar
« on: March 14, 2006, 07:10:00 PM »
Did the wagons come with a rear swaybar, haven't been able to find one.  :look:

One a side note; no shortage of smileys to choose from. :showback:

No, technically they didn't come with rear sways.  I used the rear sway bar off of a Bronco II.  Then got air shocks, separated the lines, so they didn't feed off of each other, with some cutting, a little bit of bending, some heating (fabrication), it worked.  I know, now my pinto is more fun at turns.  Stiffening up the rear end really helped me take turns at speed.

p.s.  Do you want to buy my setup?  (Air shocks, tubes, sway bar & pictures on how to mount it).  I'm thinking about switching mine out with a 280Z independent rear end.

The easy way to install one with stock ford parts is to use the Mustang II rear bar. You will need the shock plates, end link brackets, and you will need the shocks for the MII as well.

I don't recamend installing a rear bar without a beefy front bar to help balance the car. If you only install the rear bar with no front one, it can cause the back of the car to fight the front for control (oversteer).

This MII donated lots of stuff to my turbo pinto.

The Mstg II shocks will not fit a wagon without modification. The Mstg II upper mount is a stud type like the Pinto sedan/h.b., but the wagon uses a cross pin with two bolts that go into the body and a stud at the bottom.

Here is a pic of how my sway bar mounts to the axel.     The air shocks are what makes this system work best, in my opinion.

Hello eatmydust,
Parts YES! But I have probally 200 NOS Pinto parts that I do not even know what they are for...
Mostly because I only mess with the 1971-73 Pinto.
Beyond that I'm not too interested.
I still think the 74-UP Pinto's are COOL 8) though....
My son loves the 79-80 Pinto???
Which works out great!
 No competition over Parts. ;D

Those are vibration/torque dampers, kind of like the big thing hanging off the back of the tranny.

I have seen them only on the wagons.
