New member with 76 half hatch, got questions...
« on: October 21, 2014, 11:44:10 PM »
Great forum guys. I have been able to find most everything I wanted know, and then some. I've owned me a few pintos over the years, but this one is the coolest one I've had. 76 half hatch, 78 m2 swap all the way back. Big cam, holley 500, long header with 2.5" exhaust. Bored block, ported and shaved head, 10-1 compression. Super fun car.

I'm popping out of reverse. All other gears strong and smooth. Anyone have this issue on the 78 m2 4speed trans?

Also want to hook the heater core back up. Most of it is obvious, but where does the heater hose, that isn't pump or firewall, go?

Also would like to hook up with other pinto crazies in the portland oregon area.

Thanks again for the forum and the plethora of knowledge.

It's a small world. I actually know who originally built it, well did the swap. It was a wreck when he got it. I traded a little truck straight across for it, and am so stoked to end up with this car after all these years.

Popping out of reverse could be the shifter or the gear in the trans.

The 2nd heater connection could be on the intake but some Fords went to the radiator.

I thought it would connect there, I can sort of see that in some of the pics here. I see a few plugged/deleted options back there, but honestly they all seem like it would just open to the manifold, not a water passage. Anyone got a pic of the 2.3 with the heater connected?

There is 4 (3/8 NPT) plugs on the ERG adapter that bolts onto the stock intake manifold. All 4 are wet fittings and all will work but the 2 facing the firewall are the best bet. Remove the adapter first as all of them are full of crud from 30 plus years of swamp water in the block and radiator. They are so stopped up that most of the time no water will come out after the pipe plugs are removed. Break the pipe fittings loose before you remove the adapter.
Its better to be a has-been, than a never was.

Thanks. I'll pull a few of the fitting plugs form the manifold and see what works. It's had just about every creature comfort deleted. No core, hoses, or fittings left. It's all simple enough, I just have so many deleted fitting holes, I wasn't sure which one had been the heater return. Thanks again.

As for my transmission issue, I think I'm just going to have to drop it and tear into it. Damn internal linkages!

Don't forget that one side to the heater has to be flow & the other side return. 2 pressure sides & you will have little heat if any.

Pretty rainy here today, but I managed to get my new heater core in. Pressure washed the housing and used new seal foam. Went thru the blower motor and I also fabbed up some metal pipes to run thru the engine area. I look forward to defrosting tomorrow!

Water under pressure comes out intake, suction at the water pump entry fitting.
