I've looked at a few self alignment tool sets over time. Didn't get one.....yet.

If you would buy one of those speed shop magnetic base alignment tools, you will be able to align any and all car from now on. Very simple to use. Even a Vega owner could do it. At about $100 a real good tool to have.

The front end alignment spec I listed would be fine on the street. Might be a little hard to steer a very slow turn's. Would be better than a wobble.

Which reminds me.... what camber/castor would you have on a car that you plan on running as a street/strip car ?

You need at least 6 deg negative castor for straight line racings with 0 deg camber and ;D 1/16" tow in on a race car.

Need Help Identifying Emissions Device
« on: March 15, 2012, 12:31:44 AM »
I noticed on my 1978 automatic wagon (2.3L) this emissions device located on the side of the air cleaner has a broken vacuum nipple. The previous owner decided to plug the vacuum line opening with a screw.  >:(

Does any body know what this is called, what it does, or where to buy one? Attached are some photos of it.

Hey Disco78:

The item is a carburetor air cleaner vacuum control valve.  Depending on
your engine set up (and since you have a 2.3L) the part is either a
D5AZ9A995 (most likely) or a D7FZ9A995A.  Green Sales has one D5AZ9A995.
If you give them a call at 1-800-543-4959 and ask for "Doc" he can help you
with locating the item since he has a Pinto and knows a lot about them.  Also,
if you need a diagram showing the vacuum line locations let me know and I
can post that for you.

Thanks,

THANK YOU!

"Doc" was able to verify the part number (D7FZ9A995A) and direct me to a dealer where I was able to purchase the part.

If you could send me the vacuum line locations diagram, that would be great.

-One happy Pinto owner

Hey Disco78:

Attached are two possible set ups for the vacuum lines for a 2.3L.  Hope one of them
is close enough to your engine that it will help you.  Your vacuum valve is part 9A995.
Click on the figure for a better picture.

Thanks,
