Need Help Identifying Emissions Device
« on: March 15, 2012, 12:31:44 AM »
I noticed on my 1978 automatic wagon (2.3L) this emissions device located on the side of the air cleaner has a broken vacuum nipple. The previous owner decided to plug the vacuum line opening with a screw.  >:(

Does any body know what this is called, what it does, or where to buy one? Attached are some photos of it.

Hey Disco78:

The item is a carburetor air cleaner vacuum control valve.  Depending on
your engine set up (and since you have a 2.3L) the part is either a
D5AZ9A995 (most likely) or a D7FZ9A995A.  Green Sales has one D5AZ9A995.
If you give them a call at 1-800-543-4959 and ask for "Doc" he can help you
with locating the item since he has a Pinto and knows a lot about them.  Also,
if you need a diagram showing the vacuum line locations let me know and I
can post that for you.

Thanks,

THANK YOU!

"Doc" was able to verify the part number (D7FZ9A995A) and direct me to a dealer where I was able to purchase the part.

If you could send me the vacuum line locations diagram, that would be great.

-One happy Pinto owner

Hey Disco78:

Attached are two possible set ups for the vacuum lines for a 2.3L.  Hope one of them
is close enough to your engine that it will help you.  Your vacuum valve is part 9A995.
Click on the figure for a better picture.

Thanks,
