Weird Coincidence:  I live in CA.  Bought my V8 Pinto from PintoPaul in Idaho and needed to sell my BMW K1200LT to make room for it in the garage.  It just sold it on ebay...to a guy in Idaho!

Mustang II cable clutch ?
« on: January 18, 2012, 10:44:57 AM »
Was wondering if the V8 Mustang II has a cable clutch like the Pinto.
Mine has this one & the ball on the end is small. In fact, the last owner had a goofy nut & washer on the end to keep it from pulling through the clutch fork.
Wondering if the M2 has one the same, except with a bigger ball ?
(I'll be out there today to measure it)

Mustang cable is similar but also very different. It does use a ball at the fork end but uses an eyelet at the pedal end. It also uses an adjusted tube at the firewall for adjustment in combination with the adjustment on the bell. To use it you need to modify your firewall.

I use a muntang 2 cable on my 78 4spd because the Pinto cables kept breaking. I also now have the convenience of adjusting the clutch without going under the car.

I've got a '74-up cable in my '72 with t-5. The ball on the lower end is bigger than the original cable.

Gonna have to retract my earlier statement. Got out to the shop today, pulled a spare 74 cable out of box, measured ball on end...0.370". Hmm. Dug a 72 cable out, measured ball at 0.370". Now trying to remember why I swapped the cable. Would have sworn I did it to run a mustang 4 speed with my first 2.3 swap. Guess its time to start the memory excersises! JT
