First, how modified is your engine? From past experience, a 500 holley just would not be my choice for a street engine. The out of the box calibration is way too rich for a 2000cc. The 350 or even the 390 4 barrel provide much better response. The local dirt guys run 500s, but they either idle or run 8000 rpm. I'm sure you'll receive several more opinions here, but I'd like more engine/application info. JT

I would think that a 300cfm carb would Be the Ideal size for a street car. Nice flow. Not too much and not too little. I hope you can return that carb. I would and i would get the holley 300-340cfm carb.

I ran a Holley 350 on a modified 2.0 and it ran great. I agree, a 500 is way too much for a street driven car. Actually, when I first put the 350 on all I had was a header and an adjustable cam pulley, but it ran good and was a huge improvement over the 5200.
If you don't have time to do it right, when will you have time to do it over?

I tried a 500cfm Holley 2bl on my 71 2.0 a long time ago.  It was a bit much for the street, it would bog when mashing the throttle.  I maxed out the accelerator pump to no benifit.  The only way I found to make it driveable was to enrich the main jets excessively.  This killed mpg and it did not feel noticeably better than the stock carb.  I went back to the stock carb.  I see Racer Walsh now sells a restrictor kit for this carb that is advertised to fix this problem: http://racerwalsh.zoovy.com/product/RWA1218/carb_restrictor.html
My engine spec was: big valves, home porting, mid cam, headers, and about 8:1 compression.

Thanks m8!
This was helpful, think my engine is a lot wilder in spec than yours,
so I will go for the 500 carb. Mpg is not an issue on this car as
it will only see a little road use and mostly trackdays etc.
Still thankfull for more coments and experience about this...
