any secrets for getting the heater box back under the dash?
« on: October 27, 2012, 08:40:17 PM »
hey all,    Tackling the heater core fix. Putting the core back in (after testing with hooking up to motor/heater hoses) no leaks, however, is there an easy way to get the heater box/fan back under the dash and bolted up to the firewall?  or is it all down to push, shove, curse and bitch?  Just wondering if anyone knows a short cut. and is it easiest to do up the hoses first then push them forward towards the motor or wait till the box is in place then do up the hose mounts?

thanks

Hi Fred, no AC and its a 78 runbout.  The thing came out easy so I figured getting it back in wouldn't be this complicated... . LOL   thanks

If glove box is out it should be easy. It's the A/C ones that are hard.   Fred   :)

Ok thanks,  so it is push pull wiggle and curse...  easy?  i must be doing something wrong in lining up the heater box to the firewall and the vents.  what about the hoses,  any preferences? for it seems like the best way is to hook them up first and then push them out into the motor bay and fight with them around the motor?

cheers

Ok i have it in now... LOL  what a PITA to get... lol after I moved the bottom console tray and was able to get a better look inside (under the dash) I was able to see why I was having such a hard time. one of the plastic vents was lodged and blocking the path (not to mention all the wiring that was kinda hanging in the way as I was attempting to make a go of the placing of the heater box).

After I had it lined up I was able to stick on the hoses and tighten them into place and gave a final shove and presto... in she went.

thanks all who gave a hint on how to do this... uhhg glad it one of those once in a life time on a car things that we hope needs not to be done.

cheers

casey
