Does anyone know if the sway bar needs to be removed when doing the swap if you have the correct oil pan? Thanks

No , you do not have to remove it , it will be a tight fit but will clear ,

76 Pinto sedan V6 , 79 pinto cruiser wagon V6 soon to be diesel or 4.0

Get one from a V-8 Mustang II. They are up to 1" in dia and are bent to clear the oil pan.
Its better to be a has-been, than a never was.
