This was my cheap and coarse solution to removing the crank gear pulley, two pieces of angle iron, a steering wheel puller, some nuts and bolts and a piece of wire. You cut one side off of the angle iron over a length of the thickness of the pulley, and the required lip to go behind the pulley. You then bend the end of the flat iron to form a lip to go behind the pulley. It's a matter of trial and modifying to get them to slide in through the two openings and get the lip behind the gear.
Don't put any force on the aluminum flange, it will break!
Use lots of wd40 or equivalent (starting a week before the removal attempt if possible).
I loosely refitted the crank pulley bolt with space left to allow the pulley to come off , and used a piece of pipe to prevent the puller bolt sliding off the crank pulley bolt.
When the puller is under tension, hit it with a hammer every once in a while, the "shock" may just give that little extra to loosen the pulley.
Take your time and be patient.
