2018 Pinto Stampede
« on: February 08, 2018, 09:56:44 PM »
Hey all.. this probably isnt the correct place to post this but I wanted all of you to see it..

Norm Bagi and I are working up the route for the 2018 Pinto Stampede and should have it finalized in a few weeks.  Its tenatively planned for the last week in july,  monday july 30 to friday august 3 and will be a fun, 4 day drive thru the smoky mountains from nashville to charlotte.

The emphasis will be to select mostly scenic, easily drivable rural roads as much as possible, with minimal freeway driving, gas stops located every 50 miles or so, all on the right hand side of the road, photo ops at scenic locations. We are also working on some very fun activities along the way which we will reveal once they are  confirmed with local  communities along the way.

The itinerary will have google links to google maps with the route and lodging so we will all know where to vo if we get separated.

Norm will be sending out a blast on facebook as soon as things shape up but we are looking to figure out how many folks are interested so we can arrange for hotel reservations but here is a tenatative promo card thuat i will make into an 8x10 laminated print for the quarter windows.

If you all think you are interested and able to join us, please let us know or post replies to this post.

Sounds great! Only downside is schools start as early as August 1 now, so I couldn't attend the entire event. Any chance of moving it ahead a week?
I lived in Pigeon Forge for about 7 years, so if there's any question a "local" can answer, I'd be happy to help!
Since you're crossing into N.C., I'd suggest hwy 129, the "Tail of the Dragon" 11 miles, 318 corners!

We looked at tail of the dragon but we need to consider that the v8 cars sometimes have heating issues and the factory stock survivors might have difficulty on the hills and altitude. Plus due to the popularity of the route, there is the danger posed by roadracers and motorcyclists ecountering a slow moving convoy of 15-25 vintage cars.

Some updates.. some folks may want to meet up in nashville Sunday July 29 but the Stampede will officially start with a fun evening in Nashville Monday, july 30 with a special surprise

Tuesday July 31 Nashille to Cumberland Gap with sightseeing of historic Cumberland gap and a drive up to the Pinnacle over look.

Good to have you onboard Dave. Please notify Norm so we can get a count of members to make arrangements for lodging.

As for your pm about highways and the Blue Ridge Parkway

Do check out the google map links I included. In the formal itenarary we will include links to lodging and websites about places along the way so folks can have an idea of the historical significance of the areas.

Norm wanted to avoid freeways as much as possible and we have spent quite a bit of time to identifying a route with as much driving as possible over easy driving roads 35-50 mph similar to the Parkway but with gas and services available along the way. The route we planned is divided into  2 hour sections with gas stops every 50 miles on the right side of the road and comfortable lodging each nite..

Each daily section allows for driving in the morning and arriving at the hotel with time to relax and sightsee before dark.

Our end point will be Charlotte.

The Blue Ridge Parkway runs southwest to northeast and we will.be going north west to southeast.

The route we chose to Asheville and Charlotte via  Cherokee includes a drive from Cumberland gap over the route described in the ballad of thunder road then over rt 441, thru Pigeon Forge and Dollywood then over 441 to Cherokee via Gainburg and thru the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.  This is a very scenic route recommended by everyone I asked.

The routes to Asheville are again over rural roads paralleling the fwy.
