Normal operating temp for a 2.3L Pinto engine
« on: July 23, 2009, 06:01:39 PM »
I'm dealing with an overheating problem and am wondering what the right operating temperature should be for this engine.  My repair manual doesn't provide it and I want to know when I get there.  Thanks.

It would depend on what temperature thermostat that the engine has in it. Usually it should run between 170 - 190 degrees when hot. If it gets hotter than that, the thermostat might be stuck, radiator might be plugged, head gasket might have clogged holes in it, bad radiator cap, or several other possibilities might be causing it to heat. Thermostat is easiest fix and can be pulled out in just a few minutes.
