Title: 1971 Blue color option
Post by: r4pinto on May 04, 2009, 04:56:05 PM
Hey Guys,

I have decided that my 77 Pinto sedan will be the same color or very close to my mom's first car.. The original Harold: a 1971 Ford Pinto Sedan. I don't seem to be able to find pics of the car anywhere but I remember seeing one a long time ago. The car was a dark blue but that's all I know. I know this is a long shot but does anyone know the color options for a 1971 Pinto?

Thanks for any help!

In 71 it looks like there are two blues for the Pinto.
Grabber Blue, code J and Bright Blue Metallic, code 6.
Don't know if Bright Blue Metallic is dark or not.

Thanks for the info. I did find out that her car was special ordered when she bought it. I wonder if that would make a difference?

It would make a difference. Back then you could special order any Ford model with any Ford color. I'll have to dig out another Ford manual to get all the colors available in all the model lines for 71.

Cool thanks!

I just found the photo albums my parents have so tomorrow after work I'm gonna go through them & see if I can find a picture of the car, or maybe even an old insurance card or something with the VIN on it. My mom & dad kept some wierd things with the photo albums so it wouldn't hurt to check

I didn't have the manuals from 71 like I thought but got this information from
mercurystuff.c om.

Code  Name
 J   Grabber Blue
 N   Pastel Blue
 F   Medium Blue Metallic
 Q   Medium Blue Metallic
 G   Acapulco Blue
 X   Dark Blue Metallic

Best thing would be to get the color chip sheet from one of the auto literature vendors.

Hey Matt, I don't know if you decided on a blue, or even painted your car yet, but classicmustang .com has a page that shows the colors available in 1971.  They show a '6' code as Acapulco Blue, and it is a darker shade of blue.

p.s. I only have 13 more pages of old posts to catch up on...getting closer :)
