Many apologies, I didn't see this until now.  As you may guess from the screen name, the Pinto is not mine, it belongs to my wife.  About  years back she had a customer drive it into her restaurant and complain while eating that he needed a part for it.  He could not remember the name of the part.  She took one look at it and said "The part you need is a new car," making fun of the fact that it was a Pinto.  Within a few weeks she had traded her 1st gen Infiniti G20 for it.  When we got the car the back seat had never been used, the front passenger seat showed NO wear and there was a set of comics under the rear mat from 1977.  Unfortunately two young children and all their baggage do not treat a car well and the garage queen was not pleased at the transformation into daily driver.  The basic maintenance was inexpensive but the engine had to have an estimated $400 worth of work that rapidly ballooned into $800+ within a few years.  The final blow was when the transmission cooler line running through the radiator cracked and we ended up with transmission fluid and coolant intermingled.  That combined with physical problems my wife was developing from lifting an infant/toddler from the back seat of a two door wagon resulted in it being parked for between two and three years while she switched to a Neon.  Last month the Neon's water pump froze and took out the timing belt.  My understanding is that when that happens you have a 70/30 chance at bent valves so the options were either sell everything and get another or bring the Pinto out to play again.  So there you have it.  Probably more than you were looking for, lol.  Anything else you want to know, just ask I suppose.

Welcome aboard! We like long winded stories lol. People are always eager to help. With these cars you never know what you will find out till someone asks. They all have basically the same issues, yet can have their own quirky little problems.
