PINTO MEET DETAILS
« on: October 02, 2004, 01:39:55 PM »
ok from mid to late April Pigeon Forge is FULLY booked with car shows. The earliest spring date I can find is the weekend of May 6-7-8. the week before is a HUGE car show. the calendar is open for the next 2 weeks up through memorial day weekend. I don't really reccomend memorial day weekend however, as the traffic, and room rates, will be just as bad as if there were an event going on.
Let me know if this is a bad week for anyone. I'll give y'all 2weeks to change my mind on the date.

OK for things to do there are NUMEROUS Go kart tracks, The NASCAR Speedpark, There's also, the Cades Cove Scenic drive &, the ever present Great Smoky Mountain National Park. There IS Dollywood amusement park, but it's relatively expensive at $100 for a family of 4 (Imagine a Dolly Parton theme park... what on earth COULD the theme be????a hint.. it DOES have to do with MOUNTAINS HE HE HE)

I would not be able to make it that weekend as I will have Air National Guard duty.   I was actually hoping for something in the second half of March.

IN March the weather may or may not co-operate with us. It may be nice&warm but, it could be cold & snowing!! I went for april to start with, but found way too much goin on in Pigeon Forge. That town isn't too much fun with 25,000 other people driving around. I can relate to National Guard Duty as an ex-US Army Desert Storm Vet. The schedule is still flexible, And if there's a consensus I'm sure we can accomodate you. How's the weekend of May 13-14-15?

That would be better for me, but hate to have you move it just for me.  Let's just see what the majority says.

ALL the details are still up in the air Steve. nobody's going to be put out yet.  I looked for a time frame with the combination of weather &, 2-3 empty weeks in Pigeon Forge. That way we could find a time frame to accommodate everyone

So whatcha think we oughtta do on saturday afternoon? I figured we'd do a brunch type meet& greet on saturday morning. That way everyone can get together & have a sit down to talk Lil' Horses. After that we go into the parking lot to take a looksee at everyone's cars. After the meet& greet we'd go do whatever we can all agree on.

For economy I was thinking the Cades Cove trip to a late picnic style lunch, at the visitor center there. (cost: your gas, maybe $15 for a beastie V8, or $5 for a stock Pinto + your lunch from wherever sounds good to you[personally I'd take a cooler with lunch from a local grocery store]) If we add a tour thru Gatlinburg, you can add a few dollars to the trip for gas (imagine 10-15 Pintos parading thru a ski resort town!!)

Or we could spend the afternoon racing Go-Karts at the nascar Speedpark (cost: roughly $30/adult $15/child)

Then the highest on the cost scale is Dollywood (cost:$42.50 adult 12-59 $32.35 child 4-11 kids under 4 are free)

The first weekend in May sounds good to me,but i'm pretty flexable about the time.It sounds like we could have  real good time.Let's hope we can have a big turnout. The rear axel should be in the Rallye by then.

It also sounds good to me.  Like everyone else i will say "hopefully ___________ will be done by then"  in my case, the blank is about 15,000 things.....but you get the point.  I plan to be there....I may end up having a mustang tagging along with me though.  the car is is going true 2 seater and i have 2 people already fired up to come with.  the only ponys they have are fox body muscrats.  anyway.....cou nt me in.....Dollywo od is not my cup of tea, but everyhitng else sounds good.

THe hotels absolutely will not give me that info this far in advance. However if we've got 15 people or more the speedpark will be exactly $19.95 adult(13-54yrs) $12.95 junior/senior (12yrs or under & 55yrs or older) If we've got 25+ people it's $2 cheaper.THey at least have set pricing ALL YEAR. The hotels on the other hand, want at least 3wks notice, but no more than 3mo (geez they're greedy!!)

Whatever weekend you decide upon will be fine with me. I'll bring True Blue.
I left my Pinto in front of my house last night. This morning there were two more left with it.

Yes, I've been wondering myself if this is still a "go."

I need to be sure I can get a vacation day at work to head down that Friday.

Do we ever have any Pinto meets any farther west? Sounds like a good time. Tennessee is about 2500 miles from here.

Ok the date's pretty much set at may 13-15 We're probably gonna do the NASCAR SpeedPark. As for hotels, I'll get on that this week. would anyone be interested in taking a drive down US HWY 129 AKA "The Dragon" (imagine 130 turns in 11mi) The most fun you can have in a car... with your clothes on  8) Pigeon forge Tn is about 20 mi off I-40 in east Tennessee. Check the link for info on local color http://www.mypigeonforge.com/ within 30 mi there's the Great Smoky Mountains National Park,  Cades Cove Historic Route, and Dollywood Theme Park. There are WAY too many attractions to list & PLENTY of shopping for our "Better Halves"

Looks like the Sevierville Days Inn is cheapest at $49/night I'll give 'em a ring for group rates tomorrow

I will be there when you decide when and where to meet up there. That is not far from me. AND that will give me a little more time to tiker with my ride. I think that pigeon forge is a great place to meet and greet. There is more stuff to do up there than you could ever do in one weekend. we will be more busy than a one legged man in a butt kickin contest.

OK we need a minimum of 10 rooms to get a group rate. *#@& hotel managers won't give me group rates w/out a commitment. I can't commit to 10 rooms right now, because I don't know how many people are coming. I'll start a new thread to get CONFIRMED attendees.

I don't think you should put you neck out & gamble on 10 individuals showing up...

This is the first meet ever & we might need to take it slow

I don't have a problem paying for my room at a regular rate,

My 2 cents,

I agree with Scott.A dicounted room would be great, but most hotel's /motel's give discounts for AAA/arp and other agencys. So let us know where to meet so we can make arrangements for our rooms.

Hey Tony,

Glad you came over, good to have you on this site,

Your right, I should be more open as to the number showing up, I just did not want anyone to take a risk & possiblie loose some fundage...

Glad to hear you are going to be there, It will be good to see you again. Are you going to bring any parts to start the 'Swap Meet' portion of the meet?  Just a thought...

How about bringing your son? ... My wife & kids may not be coming.. She has not decided yet.

Ohhh,,, Have you got your purple pinto running so you can show it off or are you going to bring your green premo? I'm bringing the Red Wagon since the Yellow Runabout is not yet finished...

If we're not going to try for group rates, I think that the Motel 6 would be a good affordable choice. It's fairly centrally located, and last I stayed there VERY reasonable. There's even a pool. The web address is http://www.motel6.com/reservations/motel_detail.asp?MotelId=4021 You can make reservations from the link above or call (865) 908-1244. I MAY not be able to make the overnight stay, or the saturday events. I've committed myself to another thing from 9-5 on sat. I'd cancel that, but I've got 3mo invested in it. (somebody shoot me!) I build Model cars for competition & the ONLY local show is the 13th. Here's where 3mo goes into models. http://photobucket.com/albums/v205/crazyhorse001/ I'll still make the arrangements, But I can't attend on sat. I'll be there on Sunday tho. I'm looking forward to meeting you guys for however short a time as I can.

my wife works at Starwood (Sheraton, W, Four points ect.) If we can get the Pinto done, and can talk the inlaws into letting us borrow their truck (to tow it) we just might come.

OK it's time to set an itinerary. Do you guys want a schedule , or would you rather "play it by ear"? Here's a few random thoughts for Saturday.

11am"ish" Brunch at a "family restruant" (IE: Shoney's)
1pm"ish" caravan over to the NASCAR Speedpark with lunch or snacks there.
6pm"ish" caravan over to the NASCAR Cafe for dinner & Awards(drinks are optional but not reccommended cuz you've gotta drive back to the hotel, or be "shuttled" in the BACK of a Pinto!)
8pm"ish" go do whatever floats yer boat.

Here's Sunday:
11am"ish" farewell brunch at the same restruant as Sat.
1pm"ish" Caravan to Ripley's Aquarium.
5pm"ish" caravan back to Pigeon Forge by way of the smoky mountain park & Gatlinburg. Imagine 8-10 Pintos cruising a Ski resort town
6pm"ish" dinner at A&W drive in Again 8-10 Pintos parked at a drive in right on the main drag!
7pm"ish" go do whatever trips yer trigger

Awards consist of certificates (provided by yours truly)

Awards will be by popular vote... EXCEPT the Webmaster's Award.

PLEASE let me know if this sounds good, or if you might want a more free schedule, or if you think there need to be more/different awards

BTW I AM coming sat & sun, I just won't be staying in Pigeon Forge. I live about 60mi away, so I'll be driving over each day. (unless gas goes high enough to offset the cost of driving!)

Hey Guys,

I am purchasing an enclosed trailer to use as a garage and trailer for towing my baby. I am also purchasing a tow vehicle but won't have them in time for this years meet. I will be flying to VA and driving home to OK the weekend you are in TN. As time gets closer, I think I can plan my trip so I can drop down from I-40 to hook up with you guys. I see the itinerary and will monitor it closer to mid-May. You guys won't laugh at me for trailering my Pinto will you? I just don't trust a trip of that length and certainly don't want the miles on it. Now when I get my project done, that's a different story. I will probably be too old to drive by then! I am going to be able to be at Knotts Berry Farm next month and will meet some of you there. I hope to make the second annual Pinto Meet!
